Glenda Mathis, Executive Director of the YWCA in Lubbock Texas, knew that the center’s pool area could deliver increased play value for the city’s families who were seeking affordable relief from the summer sun. And Ms. Mathis was right – all it took was the designers at Vortex to turn her dream into the city’s aquatic play reality.
Vortex worked around the existing pool to install a Splashpad®, incorporating YWCA’s blue-andorange color motif, garden-themed elements, and an ElevationsTM structure, offering various textures of water effects.
Our installation is a unique combination of features which started as a community-driven renovation of a beloved landmark. Our families love the results and will be making summer memories here for decades to come.— Glenda Mathis, Executive Director of the YWCA in Lubbock, Texas
The installation has something for children of all ages. The youngest visitors can explore the Splashpad® through elements like gently spraying fish and refreshing water-spouting holes. At the same time, older family members can anticipate a drenching from the Supersplash, or be exhilarated by a turn on a waterslide.
The Splashpad® delivers high play value to families, who often now spend the whole day enjoying all of the offerings at the YWCA. Not only can families enjoy affordable and engaging aquatic play without leaving town, but the center has experienced a surge in visitors from neighboring towns as well, eager to take part in the fun offered by the Splashpad® and Elevations™ structure at Lubbock’s YWCA.
Ms. Mathis challenged Vortex to work within a small, confined space and use the center’s existing water well, all within the city’s flood plain regulations. Therefore, the Splashpad® is also eco-friendly because it recirculates the existing water.
