With the population almost doubling in the last 30 years, the town of Saint-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier saw an opportunity to expand its recreation facilities at Grand-Héron Park, on the shores of the Jacques-Cartier River. After residents continued to ask for an aquatic play activity, the town made the decision to add a 2,023 sq.ft. Splashpad® in the park. Vortex worked closely with municipal authorities to develop an eco-friendly aquatic play solution that respected the natural environment as well as the town’s budget.

The Splashpad is divided into two main play areas. On one side, a water tunnel leads to a variety of geysers and crisscrossing sprays that encourage dynamic social play. Overhead, water cascades down from Leaf No2, a feature that echos the natural environment surrounding the play area.

The other section is dedicated to lower-energy, more contemplative play, and features Tide Pool, one of the centerpieces of the Water Journey™ collection. The shallow pool recreates the rising and receding tides, alternately concealing and revealing stones of various shapes and sizes.

Feedback from local residents has been extremely positive.
