Aquatic Play Center Drives "Absolutely Amazing" Increase in Daily attendance

Woodward is a small city in the northwestern corner of Oklahoma, but don’t let that fool you. Woodward is home to an Aquatics International Dream Design Award for its Crystal Beach aquatic play center. Complete with winding water slides, water bucket spectacular, shooting cannons, and “lots of pure adrenaline,” it has become a true community favorite.

From the start, the facility was built to serve the entire community. To best appeal to children of all ages, the play structure was designed with distinct spaces for different age groups. The toddler area of the Splashpad® encourages little ones’ cognitive development, sensory discovery, motor skills development and socialization through interaction. Older family members can enjoy the interactive cross-generational features, including spray cannons and rotational spray bars.

The kids absolutely love it! There hasn’t been a day gone by that it’s not covered with tiny people, screaming, sliding and laughing while getting completely drenched by all the spray features.

— Doug Haines, Assistant City Manager/CFO

The daily attendance has grown from 80 to over 550, which is absolutely amazing. We [the city] can’t say enough good things about this feature and how it has improved the quality of life in this region.

— Doug Haines , Assistant City Manager/CFO

The centerpiece of the project is a water-play ElevationsTM structure that features slides, sprays, cannons and a large 50-gallon dumping bucket, all designed and installed by Vortex and its distributor Power Play – both masters of great aquatic play experiences. Because Woodward is committed to remaining a leader in sustainable energy, the Crystal Beach Aquatic Center includes a number of green features, not the least of which is the use of recirculating water to manage the main resource.
