Committed to building go-to destinations for social, recreational, sporting, and educational facilities for Singapore’s Armed Forces and their families, SAFRA has spent the last 44 years constructing a network of clubs across the country to meet the lifestyle needs of their members. Their newest club, SAFRA Punggol, is located in northeastern Singapore and houses the nation’s first indoor water playground in their Kidz Amaze zone.
In order to build facilities to cater to SAFRA’s target demographic – young families with children between the ages of eight months and 13 years – designers needed to offer something that appealed across age groups and that guests couldn’t experience elsewhere in Singapore.
SAFRA selected Vortex and its partner, CT-Art Creation to design a 24,000-square foot ‘Enchanted Deep Sea’ aquatic play area. The indoor water park features safe, educational and engaging amenities that would offer enhanced play experiences and encourage repeat visitation among the club’s many members.
Built on the upper floor of the building on a pre-cast slab structure, the playground features a 25-foot multi-level Elevations™ play structure. The Elevations™ structure has eight different play decks, over 42 water features, and five slides, including two larger enclosed flume slides, a small kiddie slide and a family slide suitable for all ages. A themed Splashpad® is adjacent to the structure, with eight different water features that deliver a range of attention-grabbing water effects to keep entertainment and interest levels high for all users.
In addition to entertainment and safety considerations, SAFRA Punggol also required Vortex to design and construct elements with water conservation and eco-friendliness in mind in order to obtain Green Mark certification. Their combined efforts were successful, as SAFRA Punggol became the first eco-friendly SAFRA club to receive the prestigious Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Platinum Award.
