Nature Inspired Splashpad® Offers Fun for All

Longueuil’s "De la Cité" Park offers a welcoming reprieve from busy city life. Created primarily as a retention basin to channel excess water to the St. Lawrence River, the park was designed to be multi-functional, including various areas for recreation and exercise, as well as play areas for children. With acres of green grass, beautiful vistas of Montreal and the Montérégie region, and a multitude of possible activities, visitors find it easy to relax, have fun and take advantage of all the park has to offer.

It is the perfect location for a family-friendly Splashpad®, whose zero-depth, interactive water features offer the perfect combination of safety, excitement and refreshing fun.

Since the Splashpad® was installed, there has been a big increase in traffic to the park.

The Splashpad® was designed in partnership with the city of Longueuil who were looking for a safe and inclusive attraction that would entertain people of all ages and abilities. The Splashpad® also had to meet the city’s concerns for lower staffing and maintenance costs, and include an efficient and flexible water management system to reduce the city’s environmental impact.

The result is a beautifully designed aquatic playground whose nature-inspired shapes, colors and designs were chosen to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Tall, tree, leaf and flower features spray water in all directions for a dynamic play experience, while Vortex’s unique Seeflow™ material casts vibrant shadows and shapes for a mesmerizing effect on the ground when the sun shines.

The increase in laughter and play has definitely changed the dynamic of the park and I see that kids have more fun on these water features than if playing in a simple pool.

A low-flow, user-controlled water management system sources water from city lines and releases it back into the retention pond without any accumulation on the Splashpad®, thereby eliminating the need for a lifeguard.
