Vortex in the Gold
We are proud to report that the West Bend Parks, Recreation and Forestry department is one of four finalists for the 2011 NRPA Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, in the
25,001 – 50,000 population class.
25,001 – 50,000 population class.
Regner Park, considered the “crown jewel” of the West Bend parks system, features a Splashpad® that was recently installed during the park’s rejuvenation campaign in celebration of its 75th anniversary. CRS (Commercial Recreation Specialists) provided technical consulting services and supplied water features manufactured by Vortex Aquatic Structures International. The water from the 3,260-square-feet Splashpad® is dual-purposed, which makes it more environmentally-friendly. An on-site well sends water through to the Splashpad® first before it is drained into the swimpond.
When the need for extra water occurs, the Splashpad® can tap into a city water source. Both water sources are controlled by a single piece of equipment: the Vortex Command Center, which is a fully-integrated module that is engineered to regulate waterflow, sequences and water drainage. The Gold Medal Award honors communities throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, and agency recognition. Each agency is judged on its ability to address the needs of those it serves through the collective energies of citizens, staff, and elected officials.
Success! The revenue from the new Splashpad® and renovated swim beach is double the average of the last 25 years: park attendance is at its highest in 27 years!
